    Meet our Dementia Care Specialists

    Nicola & John

Dementia Care Specialists in Wakefield - The Rainbow Care Group

Hi, our names are Nicola and John and together we are excited to bring The Rainbow Dementia Services to the Wakefield area. Our hobbies are enjoying the great outdoors, sports (John), anything to do with animals (Nicola) and we give the same commitment to support others in their passions.

We have seen first-hand how small moments of understanding, patience, and genuine connection could transform even the most challenging days. We have also witnessed the emotional toll it can take on families and realised the urgent need for personalised, respectful care that truly honours the person behind the diagnosis.

We are excited to be able to join the Rainbow Care Group and knew it was our calling the moment we spent time in their clubs meeting many members and their families. It’s time for us to join the mission to make a difference!

Every person’s story matters, and it is our role to preserve those stories while creating moments of calm, joy, and connection each day.

Thank you for considering The Rainbow Care Group to walk alongside you and your family. Together, we can navigate this journey with compassion and dignity, one day at a time.

    Andrew

    Hey, I’m Andrew!

I am a Support Activity Worker.

I used to work as a Senior Data Analyst, spending my days turning complex data into clear, actionable insights. It was a great experience, but I always felt this spark pushing me towards something more people focused, something that made a difference.

So, when The Rainbow Care Group opened in Wakefield, I grabbed the opportunity with both hands. And honestly, it’s been incredible. I’ve been supported from the very start, and every day brings something new. Our members light up the room, we laugh, we sing, we dance, and there is never a dull moment.

It’s joyful, it’s meaningful, and it’s exactly where I am meant to be. My only regret is not making the jump sooner.

    Chloe

    Hi, I’m Chloe.

I’m passionate about providing person centred dementia care and crating warm, a welcoming environment where every individual feels valued and understood.

With a broad range of experience in Dementia support, I know how important it is to take the time to get to know each person – their story, their preferences and what brings them comfort. I believe small moments of patience, kindness and genuine connection can make a real difference.

Outside of work, I’m a mum, a former professional rugby player and I love to travel!

    Elleisya

I am the Lead Development and Network Coordinator at the Rainbow Care Group Wakefield & East Leeds.

My role is all about building relationships and creating connections across our community so individuals and families can access the support they need.

I’ve spent much of my career in customer service and relationship management, which has shaped my people-focused and approachable style. As a mum and grandma, and having supported family members living with dementia, I understand the challenges families and carers can face. That understanding is what guides the empathy and care I bring to my work every day.

I look forward to continuing to connect with families, carers and professionals within our community.

    Fran

    Hi, I am Fran

I am always up for giving anything a go! I’m a big sports fan and very competitive – I definitely get that from my dad. When I am not keeping active, I love getting creative, whether it’s baking (and of course taste testing the treats!) or doing crafts. I’m also a big fan of karaoke – my go to song is ‘She will be loved’.

I don’t take myself too seriously and truly believe laughter is the best medicine and seeing others happy makes me happy.

My grandmother was my greatest inspiration. Later in life, she developed dementia, and I saw firsthand the impact it had – not only on her but our entire family. She had lived with arthritis for many years, which limited her mobility, but she remained an intelligent, curious woman who loved quizzes and keeping her mind active. Watching her journey shaped my decision to pursue a career in care. I began working in home care where I learned invaluable skills and gained meaningful experience supporting individuals in their own homes. I went on to complete my level 3 diploma in Adult Health and Social Care, where I developed a deeper understanding of Dementia and person-centred support.

Overtime, I realised I wanted to offer more than just brief visits. I wanted the opportunity to spend quality time with people living with dementia, bringing comfort, companionship, and moments of joy. All while supporting their families by giving them much needed respite and peace of mind.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Is the taster day free?

Totally. We want you to experience the day as if you were a full member. This means places are limited, so please contact us today to reserve a place.

Is it a full day or half day?

The day runs from 10am until 4pm. This is really important to give the carer a full day respite, but also to embed the loved one into the group. The change that takes place when someone gets a full day of stimulation is much faster, so beneficial all round.

Can the carer stay with the loved one?

We don’t advise this, no. This is because it is as important for the carer to get some time off and feel refreshed as it is for the loved one to feel part of the group.

    Is there food?

Yes, we provide a breakfast snack on arrival in addition to the 2 course lunch. (Allergies will be discussed prior to a taster day)

    Do you give personal care?

We can provide personal care and we will deliver this support in the most respectful and dignified way possible. We provide a thorough assessment where we will be able to offer clarification on everything we can provide as part of our service.

    Carol - A Carer's Perspective (Video)

As this video about Leeds rugby legend, John Atkinson, and his wife and carer Carol, testifies, Rainbow's Dementia Day Services really do make a difference. When it comes to dementia care, we look at the person and not the diagnosis.
